Newborn baby dead in front yard

A NEWBORN baby has been found dead in the front yard of a Charters Towers home.

The infant's body was found by a resident of the house on Mahoney St, Richmond Hill on Sunday morning, The Townsville Bulletin reports.

It is believed the baby was dumped soon after its birth.

Police said forensic tests were ongoing and no further information was available.

The mother has not been identified.

An emergency services worker, who attended the scene but wished to remain anonymous, said many people involved in the incident were shocked and upset.

"The lady who saw it was absolutely mortified. She went to feed her dog and she was absolutely mortified," the source said.
